POUGHKEEPSIE- Dorothy L. Shelton Skeen, 81, passed away at the Pines of Poughkeepsie on Sunday after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Dot was born February 2, 1930 in Richlands, Virginia to George and Ivory Shelton.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Dennis, and sons Thomas, Richard, and Steven, as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one child, Chris, whose untimely passing took a great toll on her heart.

She worked for IBM for 28 years, retiring in 1990.

She traveled a great deal with her friends throughout Europe and the US, and especially enjoyed the trips to visit her daughter in Ireland and most recently touring Alaska.

She was a loving and caring person who volunteered with multiple organizations, but her passion was with the Second Hand Rose organization in Poughkeepsie. Some of her fondest memories were the years she volunteered with them and her active membership in the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church community.

She was also an avid seamstress all her life and in recent years had created beautiful quilts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Evelyn Germano, and brothers Paul and Don Shelton.

Survivors also include two sisters, Maxine Bagley and Ima Dreher.

She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. The family would like to extend much gratitude to The Pines' staff , especially the '6th floor', whose patience, affection, and professional care brought much comfort in the face of a cruel disease.

Arrangements are private at the convenience of the family.
